Churt came to the game sitting 2nd in the table, but with three important players (Ella Farrier, Maisie Lambert and Isobel Kandak) missing, whilst Goldsworth were 2nd from bottom.
The game started well with both sides defending and tackling well. Churt kept the ball up their end of the pitch playing hard to keep the ball, whilst the wind swirled around and effected play.
Churt had a succession of corners, one of which (taken by Lily Jay) was headed onto the bar by Hannah Watts, but the Goldsworth goalkeeper picked up the rebound well and was generally doing a great job of keeping the Churt attack out.
On 16 minutes, Amy Recker came off the bench to replace Holly Donati in the centre of midfield.
Hannah Watts had a few chances running down the left and shooting, whilst Goldsworth's long goal kicks, looked a threat every time, as the wind was making things hard to judge. But at half time the teams came in 0-0.
At the beginning of the second half, Holly Donati came back on the pitch to replace Lily Jay, and Amy Recker moved into the attack.
On the 33rd minute, Holly Donati won the ball in the midfield and threaded a great pass, through the defence, for Hannah Watts to chase, the Goldsworth keeper came out, but Hannah got to the ball first and guided it pass the keeper, but unfortunately also just wide of the post.
Then In the 39th minute, Hannah Watts had a shot blocked by the keeper but managed to get the ball back out to Amy O'Donnell who curled in a great swooping shot, which landed perfectly in the net, and Churt took a deserved lead. 1-0.
Goldsworth continued to have a few attacks but most of the attacking play was by Churt until a short period of pressure ended in a corner for Goldsworth.
On the 43rd minute, Goldsworth swung the ball in from the corner and with a ricochet around the penalty area, suddenly a shot came in and its hit the back of the Churt net. 1-1.
On the 45th minute, Lily Jay came back on upfront, with Amy Recker taking a well earned breather.
The game was now end to end, still effected by a swirling wind, which didn't allow for a lot of slick play, but both teams were battling hard, searching for a winner. Goldsworth had one long shot smashed high from the half way line, and Churt goalie, Tilly Carr, made a great save with her feet to knock the ball past the post.
But both defences held firm, with a great performance by Goldsworth defender, Jenny, and their goalkeeper too, and Emily Watts and Tallulah Musgrove doing the same for Churt.
Emily Watts was having a few commanding runs out of defence and pushing Goldsworth back, but they came to nothing in the end. One ended with Liv Potter hitting the ball over the bar.
On the 53rd minute, Amy Recker came back on the pitch for Holly Donati, who had run her socks off, in her first game for a month.
Still the teams battled back and forth, and with 4 minutes to go, Amy Thompson broke through down the right hand side, sweeping the ball in early, for Hannah Watts ,to tuck the ball away. Unfortunately it was offside, so the game remained 1-1.
It was now looking like a draw, with only a 90 seconds left on the clock, when Emily Watts started another weaving run out of defence on the left. She managed to weave in and out of several players, skipping over tackles and eventually reaching the edge of the Goldsworth box, where she tucked the ball neatly, with the outside of her foot, and straight to the her sister, Hannah. She stopped the ball, making the keeper move the wrong way and then calmly placed the ball in the back of the net. What a goal, what a run and what a finish. 2-1 to Churt with 1 minute to go.
Churt managed to finish the game on top and ended up winning 2-1. It was a close fought game, with Goldworth being much improved from their previous games, and the teams starting positions of 2nd and 2nd bottom, not reflecting the actual closeness of the game.
A good team performance by Churt, not the best they have played this season, but 3 points all the same. Driven over the line by the determined runs of Emily Watts, for which she was awarded the Woman of the match, for the second game running.!
